Dear Wine Ladies
In your Friday November 6, 2009 24 Hours newspaper column a question was asked about the white wine Zanatta Damasco as well as the Averill Creek Pinot Noir, both from Vancouver Island.
On your mark, get set go… Gamay Nouveau 2009 is about to hit the shelves! The excitement and joy of the first wine to be released after harvest around the world is aptly called Beaujolais Nouveau in Beaujolais, Gamay Nouveau in Canada and Vino Novello in Italy. Other countries too, participate in this festive and frivolous ritual, whereby this very young wine, hence the name “nouveau” has it’s release on the third Thursday in November, no matter the continent.

Dear Wine Ladies,
Could you please tell me what ingredients or process of winemaking some one could have allergies to? I am not allergic to tannins or alcohol, and have been unsuccessful in finding an answer to why I am allergic to wine. Could certain grapes specifically or certain regions be the problem? Thank you in advance.
Dear Wine Ladies,
I was recently introduced to a couple of wines which surprisingly came from Vancouver Island; one was from the winery Zanatta and the other from Averill Creek.
With all the traveling back and forth with our stemware, wine tastings and home entertaining we need wine glasses that are durable, stylish and able to show off the wine to its best. Being very busy too we wanted glasses that were dishwashers safe, reasonably priced, always a good thing with all the wine tasting we do!
The wines of the VQA Lake Erie North Shore wine growing region of Ontario recently took centre stage. With latitude close to that of Bordeaux, as well as some parts of Italy and even California, this region is well situated, with over a dozen wineries now producing some amazing wines.
No one had done more to turn icewine into Canada’s signature wine than Donald J.P. Ziraldo and winemaker Karl Kaiser the two founding partners in 1974 of Inniskillin Wines.
