Que Syrah Syrah.... indeed! Elegant with notes of intoxicating ripe fruit, chocolate and black pepper on the nose, with sweet berries, more pepper, softer tannins and satisfying finish. A perfect accompaniment to one of our all time favorites roast lamb with white pepper, lots of garlic and rosemary.
This wine is one of two new CEV releases of Colio Estate Wines,www.coliowinery.com located in the wine growing region Lake Erie North Shore, Ontario. These premium CEV wines are produced in limited quantities, and are hand crafted from select vines. For this Syrah the grapes came from the winery’s estate vineyards in Colchester.
Winemaker Lawrence Buhler, for whom this wine marks one of his first two wines of the CEV series, personally selected the barrels for the final assemblage to create this delicious Syrah. The 2010 Small Lot Syrah was stainless steel fermented then aged for 18 months in European oak and 25% new French oak barriques. “I always look for “melted” tannins to frame such expressive fruit as we had in the 2010 vintage” he says, and “I am very excited about how this grape performs in this region”. We concur, syrah happens to be one of our favorites if done right, and it will be sure to perform once again in our glasses tonight.
