Ask the Wine Ladies: Northern Italian Grappa

Dear Wine Ladies,

My wife and I had a delicious grappa from Northern Italy a few weeks ago and are now keen on learning more about them. Might be a good topic for one of your shows? Where are the most popular ones made and are they made with wine?

Eric

Dear Eric,

Doing a show on grappa is a great idea. As for where grappa is made, in order for the drink to be called grappa, it has to be made in Italy.

Grappa is actually a brandy made from distilling the remaining grape skins, pips and stalks left after the pressing of the grapes.
