Health benefits of polyphenols found in home-made red wine

Dear wine Ladies,

I make my own wine from juice concentrate and have a question with regards to my heart! With all the great news about the health benefits of polyphenols found in red wine, I was wondering if there’s just as much in home made wines as there is in commercial wines.

George

Dear George,

Unfortunately there isn’t quite as much in home made wines due to the process of making the juice concentrate. A part of the process involves evaporation of the juice and therefore a slight reduction of the polyphenols that are present at the time. Not to worry though, there is still a significant level of those heart healthy compounds available in your home made wine which is most assuredly greatly enjoyed. A votre sante George!
