Ice Wine Serving Size

Dear Wine Ladies,

We are planning a small dinner party and I would like to offer an icewine at the conclusion of the meal. A little virtual shopping is leading me to rethink this due to the prices.  How many ounces is an appropriate serving for a dessert wine?

Helen

Dear Helen,

Due to the sweetness of dessert wines, an appropriate serving per person is considerably less than that of a regular wine. You may have noticed that the majority of icewines are sold in half bottles (375ml) partially for this reason. Generally speaking, approximately a three ounce pour per person should be fine. Also to be considered, several glasses of wine may have already been enjoyed towards the end of your dinner party.
