Iconic Hairstylist Robin Barker gives up a big secret

Known as the “King of Makeovers”, Robin Barker the award winning iconic hair stylist has been holding a big secret. With over 30 years experience on television, respected and recognized as the “Hairdresser’s Hairdresser”, who new that composing music and writing lyrics are among Robin’s many talents!

Well Robin, the secret is now out! With help from Toronto artists, Robin has compiled a jazzy, contemporary CD (a sampler of 5 songs designed to showcase what’s more to come) entitled “What Are The Children worth”? This CD with all original lyrics and tunes written by Robin Barker was launched at a fundraising soiree held January 27th, 2009 located at the Robin Barker Hair Sociates premises in Yorkville. 100% of all proceeds from the evening including sales of the CD benefitted The Stephen Lewis Foundation.

The Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) supports community-based organizations that are turning the tide of HIV/AIDS in Africa. They provide care to women who are ill and struggling to survive; assist orphans and other AIDS-affected children; reach heroic grandmothers who almost single-handedly care for their orphan grandchildren; and sustain associations of people living with HIV and AIDS. Since 2003, this foundation has funded over 300 projects in 15 countries.

Robin had asked us, The Wine Ladies to join him in this deserving cause. Forever grateful to Robin and his expert team to always making us look our best and we knew this is a very worthy cause we knew we would just have to help and be there with our support and our wines for the evening.

It was a magical evening composed of fabulous hor d’oeuvres, wonderful wines, sparkling conversation and entertainment that had the room rocking and swaying to the notes, lyrics and spectacular voices and music of some very talented local musicians and singers.

On-Air Host Jaymz Bee of JAZZ.FM91 emceed the evening ensuring it progressed at the right beat. We were entertained by 3 amazing singers on the night including the legendary June Garber, the lady in the little package with a big voice Sophia Perlman and the entertaining Mike Ferfolia. Other singers on the CD include Liberty Silver and Micha Barnes and Robin Barker too. Piano Waylan Miki, Sax & flute Chris Plock, Guitar Tony Quarantine, Bass Carley and drums Bob Scott.
