Le Clos Jordanne

Curry Hall, a ballet rehearsal room for the National Ballet School is the chosen venue for the release of the 2006 Le Clos Jordanne Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Le Clos Jordanne is a partnership, a joint venture that has its roots dating back to the millennium, between two major players, and two wine regions; the Niagara Peninsula and one of France’s pride and joy, Burgundy. Now, eight years later Boisset, La Famille des Grands Vins of Nuits-St.Georges, and Vincor have accomplished exactly what they set out to do. To create a “world class “domaine” in the Niagara Peninsula devoted exclusively to producing Burgundy’s classic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals”.

We appreciate in our tasting today the importance of the Niagara terroir, with its similiarities in soils and climate to that of Burgundy. Winemaker Thomas Bachelder continues to work his magic having his hand in blending a little of the “old world” with the “new” producing wines wonderfully Burgundian in style, with finesse and length. This was a tough vintage, the 2006, with loads of rain… we can all remember, with the humidity and the harsh couple of wet weeks in September, but Le Clos Jordanne comes through with a big gold star!

Of the five Pinots we tasted we couldn’t help favoring the Le Clos Jordanne Vineyard, silky and elegant, a little gamey in the nose with raspberry. When Bachelder stated “this is the wine for the “gourmand”, not the gourmet… if you love good wine, good food and good sex, this is the wine for you.” Everyone nodded and laughed, clearly making a note of this wines special properties!
