Witches Blood perfect beverage for Halloween!

Dear Wine Ladies,

We’ll be welcoming a gruesome crowd Saturday night for our first Halloween party at our new condo acquired just last month.

Dear Wine Ladies,

We’ll be welcoming a gruesome crowd Saturday night for our first Halloween party at our new condo acquired just last month. A range of wines, always our first beverage of choice, will be served but we wondered if you knew of any cocktails or drinks that are made with wine, preferably red, and/or if you know of any Halloween themed wine labels out there?

Joanne

Toronto, Ontario

Dear Joanne,

Congratulations on your new condo, what a fabulous way to beckon good spirits and good friends to your new abode!

Indeed, we do have a simply delicious and devilish cocktail to suggest, courtesy of Victor Miller, founder and proprietor of the BSO, Bartending School of Ontario http://www.bartendingontario.com/

“Witches Blood” is the name of the cocktail, incorporating a good dosage of Merlot, this cryptic cocktail delivers big on flavour, punch and esthetics.

WITCHES BLOOD
1/2 glass merlot
top with gingerbeer
float blue curacao on top
pour over ice
red wine glass
build drink
garnish with lime

As for Halloween themed wines, a number of them exist such as “Vampire” and “Dracula” from California, “Poizin” a Zinfandel from Sonoma, Toad Hollow Eye of the Toad Pinot Noir Rosé also from the Golden state and Casillero del Diablo (Cellar of the Devil) from Chile, just to name a few. If you are unable to locate any of the above, Martha Stewart to the rescue with her Halloween Glitter Wine Labels. These labels will transform any ordinary wine to “Goblin Grog, Swamp Cider or “Witch’s Brew” with an easy peel and stick label, sparkling with glittered highlights.

As a sidebar, Victor from the BSO also provided us with a second recipe, one that is often served up to the gents around this time, utilizing beer in lieu of wine, we thought we might include this one too.

IRISH STRIPPERS REVENGE
1/2 glass peeler cider
dash of grenadine syrup
top with Guinness
pint glass
build to layer
lemon twist
