Wine list boasting over 340 labels
White table cloths, fine dining and a superb wine list is the name of the game here at Tu Casa Fine Dining. Tu Casa means “home” and that is how you feel when you arrive here with the friendly, professional welcome you get at Tu Casa. Although definitely fine dining, its more about a relaxed dining experience with a worldly menu and an award winning wine list boasting over 340 labels, this charming neighborhood restaurant offers a friendly, intimate, superb culinary experience.
The kitchen is headed up by a young chef who’s passion for food is infectious.
Chef JohnRoss Woodland ,although just only 24 years of age has a command of the culinary arts way beyond his years. So much so that he recently took home the top prize on Food Network’s hit show Chopped Canada. Scanning the menu you will see that this chef has an imagination and whimsy that will make your dining experience super special from the “singing oysters from the sea” to the Carrot Cake served in a clay pot. Chef JohnRoss says he wants his patrons “to capture a glimpse into my life with every plate. Whether it be the salt cod fritters from my stay in New England, my take on s’mores from my childhood, or my baked potato risotto from my current adventures. I want them to experience the passion of our kitchen in every bite.”
Executive and Celebrity Chef JohnRoss Woodland
Chef JohnRoss was nominated for the James Beard Rising Star Award and as one of 30 top Canadian chefs under 30.
Besides the extraordinary array of options on the regular menu including the delightful appetizers we enjoyed like the succulent Scallop and Pork Belly consumed by Georgia or the dramatically presented Tuna Two Ways served up to Susanne you can also opt for the special Chef’s Tasting Menu.
With a 24 hour notice for a reservation why not try the Chef’s Tasting Menu, “La Vie” where the chef will create a 7 course mini tasting menu especially for you. He’ll shop local ingredients at the local Farmers Market and create something unique just for you. And why not, top that off with a wine pairing with each course?
Tu Casa Fine Dining features a list of over 100 single malt scotchs, with regular Scotch and food pairing evenings!
And if you love wine, you are going to love this.Tu Casa has won the The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence the past 2 years running with over 340 wine labels offered. And Dale, who runs the front of house philosophy is to offer these wines at a very reasonable price. So that you may explore a wine journey to match your dining experience. Be a witness to a dynamic display of culinary arts at Delta Meadowvale’s Chef Wars competition.
The event to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity Mississauga on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Guests will dine on a gourmet five course menu. The menu inspired by Delta Meadowvale’s Executive Chef Andrew Nelson and Personal Chef Solutions’ Owner and Head Chef Terry Port.
The chefs will entertain guests with a live cooking experience. A secret ingredient will be revealed and incorporated in each course. A panel of judges including The Wine Ladies and Chopped Canada winner Chef JohnRoss Woodland will evaluate each dish on presentation, taste, and creativity.
Of the kitchen that is…. Celebrity chefs today are the new rock stars, with so many cooking shows on the air from Hells Kitchen, to Iron Chef and one of our faves, CHOPPED Canada our daily diet excuse the pun is consumed with celebrity chefs, their talent and the dishing out of critiques.
And speaking of critiques, we, The Wine Ladies have been asked to be Celebrity Judges for Chef Wars, a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity whereby just like in the TV show CHOPPED Canada, two accomplished chefs, in this case, Chef Andrew Nelson of the Delta Meadowvale Hotel as well as Chef Terry Port, of Personal Chef Solutions will vie for THE winning TITLE creating a fabulous menu using secret ingredients.
And as celebrity judges, we thought we’d reach out for some advice and why not go to the best of the best!
Joining us on the show, Celebrity chef extraordinaire, television host, judge on CHOPPED Canada, cookbook author, and an award winning recording artist,Celebrity Chef Roger Mooking.
Also joining us Executive Chef JohnRoss Woodland, who traded in his hockey skates for chopping knives as he trained to become a professional chef that lead him to fame as a recent winner of CHOPPED Canada winning $10,000 in prize money, and as it happens Roger Mooking was one of the judges that helped make that happen!
We’ll be sure to get a lot of advice from these guys for not only ourselves being judges but also for our next guest Executive Chef Andrew Nelson of the Delta Meadowvale Hotel who is one of the two chefs competing at the CHEF WARS event! Andrew has quite a lineup of awards already attached to his name, so a formidable opponent he will be for sure.
All this excitement and competition will be to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Mississauga. Habitat offers a hand up, not a hand out and helps make homes a reality for families in need. Mark Jambrovic, Event Manager, joins us to share all of this with us. It’s going to be a great show.
Celebrity Chef Roger Mooking a reoccurring judge on Chopped Canada, which premiered to an all-time audience record high for Food Network Canada joins The Wine Ladies on the radio show with a little advise on how to best be a Food Judge for Chef Wars! Hear what he has to say! Thanks Roger for your help!
